Nikita Dutta never had to struggle for opportunities in the film or TV industry but she will be presenting tough situations youngsters have to face in showbiz on the small screen. She chats with Divya Kaushik
It is highly unusual that you meet someone from the showbiz and he/she would tell you that the first break came to him/her without any struggle. But Nikita Dutta is a rare case. The actress crossed her fingers and raised her eyes, as if showing her gratitude to God, while she told us that so far she never had to chase any role, be it in films or on TV. “It has been a smooth journey. Soon after my graduation I went to Miss India pageant and post that I was a Zoom anchor. While doing that, I was offered my first film, lekar Hum Deewana Dil, and then I anchored for some cricket matches. I was then offered this TV show, Dream Girl-EK ladki Deewani Si,” she shared.
While she was here to promote the show with her co-star, the actress told us that she never thought enough about doing a TV show earlier. “I don’t run after anything. I would rather patiently wait for the right opportunity. I didn’t watch TV shows but when I was offered this show I realised that this is something different and I would enjoy playing this small town girl who is highly determined to make her dreams come true in the tinsel town. This show has a lot of reality but it doesn’t delve deep into the negative aspects of showbiz,” said Nikita.
Dream Girl on life OK traces the journey of a Jodhpur girl lakshmi who harbours dreams of becoming a superstar. “We have presented everything in a very colourful manner. Moreover, it is difficult to present everything about the cinema world in a TV show. If at all there is a message in the show, it is for the youngsters in small towns who dream of a career in the film industry. There are a lot of misconceptions about the industry and the show will convey it to the youth that all you need is self-determination to achieve your goals and you do not have to adapt yourself to anything that you think is wrong to achieve something. The show only comes with a positive message,” she said. Since Nikita has been a part of the industry for some years now, she didn’t need to “work” on her character. “There was not much preparation that I had to do since I know how this industry functions. I only had to learn about the life in small towns and dreams and aspirations of the youth there,” she said.
