lt Gen Aniruddha Chakravarty, VSM, DG NCC reviewed an impressive march past presented by the ‘Young Custodians of the Nation’ at Garrison Parade Ground, Delhi Cantt marking an end to the eleven day-long NCC National Games 2014. The ceremony was a grand spectacle of pageantry marked with precision, a vibrant expression of pulsating energy kindling each heart with pride. The NCC National Games has its genesis in the year 1997 when they were held as part of the NCC Golden Jubilee celebrations. In the subsequent years, the format was changed to the conduct of different games at the regional levels. Since last year, the games have been being conducted in a centralised format at Delhi, aiming to provide talented sportsmen among the cadets the feel of a major sporting event and preparing them with requisite match temperament and furthering their sporting careers. The games conducted by the DG of NCC were attended by nearly 2,000 Cadets from 17 State Directorates representing both States and Union Territories and participating in eight sport disciplines.
The closing ceremony commenced with hundreds of young cadets performing a scintillating display of cheer leader dance and a choreographed dance display with the theme ‘Dance for India’. It was followed by a thrilling and daring display by the ‘Dare Devils’ — Motor Cycle Display Team and the para-motors from the Indian army.
The show concluded with a march past by the participating sportsmen from the 17 directorate contingents led by cadets, mounted on their stallions, carrying the national services and the NCC Flag symbolising ‘unity and integration’.
The chief guest presented the winners’ trophies for each event of the games and the overall champions trophy to West Bengal and Sikkim Directorate.
In his address to the cadets, Chakaravarty, complimented the entire fraternity for the impressive conduct of the games and acknowledged the vital role and commitment of the corps to groom the future leaders.
