During his maiden trip to India, father of disco Giorgio Moroder was super excited for his performance. He shares with Riya Sharma that in 70s, the music was all played by musicians whereas in EDM, the computer does most of the work

Were you excited about your first India visitIJ

This was my first time and I hope not the last time.

How did it feel to perform hereIJ What all did you playIJ

It felt great. At Johnnie Walker, it was an interesting adventure. I played around 25 songs, some of which were my old tracks and some were my new songs. It was fun performing. I performed for an hour so I played about 25 of my old, new songs along with remixes.

Many Bollywood film tracks have been inspired by your tunes. Are you familiar with Indian musicIJ Had the opportunity to check it outIJ

I don’t know much, I know very little about Indian music. But, it is interesting, I love the guy who did the music for Slumdog Millionaire. That was great music and he deserved the Oscar.

After a 23-year hiatus, you released your album Deja Vu. What inspired you and are you happy with the way it turned out

I did the tracks and the way Sia did the lyrics part. She did a really good job. I loved the way she sang. She did the harmony, it was really great.

Were there any challenges in the way while creating music for Deja VuIJ

No, I had the tarcks done and we (Moroder and Sia) discussed about the changes that both of us wanted.

What do you think of the current music sceneIJ Also how different is it from the 70sIJ

It is different from 70s and EDM sounds are cleaner and new. But the main thing is, disco was all played by musicians, drums, keyboards whereas in EDM, I think the recording is done using computers. My  favourites from the present time are DJs like David Guetta, Avicii, Tiesto and musciias like Skrillex and Diplo.

What is your take on the 'Johnnie Walker The Journey' platformIJ

It is a great festival, and I was very excited to be part of theJohnnie Walker journey.

That moustache looks glorious. What's the secretIJ

I did not like it 30 years ago. It was so big and difficult to keep. I love them now but they are getting smaller and smaller.
