The afternoon started later than promised with models and a few renowned Olympic wrestlers like Sofia Mattsson, Mariya Stadnik and CWG medallist Yana Rattigan sashaying the ramp in designer Abhishek Sharma’s collection. Ace wrestlers like Sakshi Malik stopped the show in a Rohit Bal achkan style sherwani, Geeta Phogat in a JJ Vallaya saree and Yogeshwar Dutt in  a Ashish & Soni dapper suit. The Great Khali also marked his presence at the end of the show. The turban-themed fashion walk had nothing to do with the turban except showcasing a lineup of lesser  known wrestlers wearing an ordinary red turban and strutting down. Behind all the stars and glitter, the ostensible aim of the show was to highlight the forthcoming season 2 of Pro Wrestling league (PWl) that will be aired from December 15  till the middle of January.

This season the league will naturally have superstars of the sport, both from India and abroad, including Iran.

Olympic bronze medallist Sakshi Malik did not get carried away by her debut ramp experience at the Taj Mahal Hotel. “life has changed a lot (after Rio) and people have been recognising me as a prominent sportsperson. Nevertheless, I have resumed my usual training now to be in good shape for the PWl. I am training twice daily, at Rohtak’s Chhoturam Stadium akhara where I learnt my first lessons in wrestling,” she said, rooted as ever. Asked whom she would love to see if a biopic happens to be made on her, she smiled, “I am a wrestler and I am less aware of film actors. I believe it’s not my job, the film industry will definitely have a fix on this.”
