Ronit Roy talks to I Kaur about his liking for dark, shady characters

There was once an angry young man who everybody loved, and if I can fill those shoes then nothing like it,” said Ronit Roy who will be seen in his best-suited dark character in his forthcoming film Boss.

Being stereotyped for playing angry, serious and dark characters goes well with the actor. He shared, “I am a very laid-back person and take life as it comes. My choice of films is governed by the people who approach me. I think perception is everything. If these people perceive me in such a way, then it is fine by me, because that is how people want to see me. On a personal front I don’t think so much.”

So far, Ronit was only been seen in films that are heavily content-driven. Nevertheless, the actor has no qualms in saying that he loves the mass entertainment industry. “The 100-crore club is my favourite. I loved Chennai Express, Khiladi 786, Rowdy Rathore and all of Salman’s films — I think these kinds of films are meant for entertainment. We just need to switch off our minds and  have fun. That is exactly how Boss is,” he elaborated.

Playing the “bad guy” is not a new thing for the actor but he feels that the way a negative character is shown to a niche audience is different. “If you see my character in Udaan it is very different from how you will see me in Boss,” he said.

Apart from Ugly, Ronit will be seen playing the role of Arjun Kapoor’s father in 2 States.

“I like the serious role I am playing in 2 States. I feel that however small the role is, if you can make an impact, it is good enough,” he summed up.
