Volumes have been written about the bond between a mother and a daughter, endless talk about her strength, beauty and grace. Amidst all this, there is little said about the father’s role in a daughter’s life. In one such forthcoming show on Star Plus, Meri Durga, highlights the bond between father and daughter. Set against the backdrop of Haryana, the story revolves around the challenges a school peon faces to educate his child with the best possible facilities.
Vicky Ahuja, who is playing the role of the father said, “I chose this project keeping in mind a new angle and a pure story this show has to offer. Also, I think this is not simply fiction. It is about all those parents who are unable to support their child’s education because of the lack of money. And with the high expenses, one has to pay for the coaching classes, internet, projects and numerous other things. Similarly, the show captures the moments of those situation where a random school peon manages all the expenditure to educate his 12-year-old daughter.” Ananya Agarwal, the child artiste, said, “I love acting because I make many friends here.” Playing the role of Durga, she added, “My character is of a girl who enjoys childhood and have fun. She finds running after kites across paddy fields, swimming in rivers, more interesting than reading about them in books. She doesn’t shy away from hard work and spends a lot of time with her books ‘trying to study’ but somehow alphabets and numbers refuse to make her brain their home.”
Vicky, who is a theatre artiste, talked about how theatre in India has expanded and taken television in its boundaries. “When I started with theatre, there were not many avenues that one can chose from. It was not a popular medium. But gradually things have changed. There are many television actors who started from theatre and then came on small screen. So it is a good time for theatre. There is an increase in people who watch theatre and appreciate it,” he said.
He further added, “There are few Bollywood actors who are still associated with theatre. Though they established themselves from the medium of theatre. Had they been involved, people would have watched theatre like films.”
