Nikita Jajodia’s pictures capture nature, wildlife and people she meets while travelling. She spoke to I Kaur

At 18, Nikita Jajodia has not only travelled the world but also captured it through what she calls her extended eye — the lens of her camera. Her first exhibition, Weaving Stories, was presented by her industrialist father Sandeep Jajodia at The Stainless Gallery.

The exhibition covered five themes. Nikita explained, “My photographs are about people, wildlife, abstract objects, nature and landscape, which I came across during my visit to different places like Sweden, Greece, Vietnam, Amsterdam, Africa, Italy, london, Delhi and Tosh Valley near Kasauli.”She added that she is still exploring the art of photography.

“I haven’t yet developed a stream. There is no one thing that I want to tell through my photos as of now. It was my first exhibition, so I’m still hoping to explore more,” she said adding, “I started clicking pictures as a hobby, but I feel there is much more to be done to be called as a professional. My father organised this exhibition since he thought my photos were really good and should be displayed. I feel more confident now.”

After completing her schooling from British School, Nikita recently finished a month-long photography course. Apart from photography, she has keen interest in Psychology which according to her, also reflects in her photographs.

“I am going to the University of California, San Diego to study Psychology and will be doing minors in photography as well. I love the idea of understanding expressions. Even my pictures show that,” said Nikita, who hopes to pursue abstract and natural photography in the future. At present, Nikita is headed towards Rajasthan where she is keen to capture the rural backdrop.
