After the surprise success of Grand Masti, Vivek Oberoi hopes to continue his winning streak with Krrish 3. He chats with Karan Bhardwaj about the  challenges he faced for his super villain avatar

After Grand Masti, you are bound to have high hopes with Krrish 3.

The success of Grand Masti was a huge blessing. Delhi Belly was the biggest success in category of adult comedy. It crossed some Rs 54 crore. We were skeptical if we would cross that mark. And now we have touched almost its double. I am elated that people have accepted it unanimously. I came across some elderly women in 60s who had come with their kitty party gang to watch it. I was stunned. Now after two months, I am set for another landmark movie  Krrish 3. I am on a all-time high.

What do you make out from the success of Grand MastiIJ

Audience has evolved! It definitely says what people want to see. Critics blasted us but they were being unfair. They appreciate American Pie series but when Hindi filmmakers attempt something like that, they don’t accept. Why this white-complexIJ That’s ridiculous. The film has proved that India has got a sense of humour. We have grown up enough. We don’t need moral policing. After 18, if one can decide what one wants to do, how can you impose restriction on cinema preferenceIJ

You said your character in Krrish 3 is going to be daddy of all baddies. How big is this characterIJ

For me, it’s such a high to be chosen to play first super villain of Hindi cinema. The character is of Kaal, the prince of darkness. He holds humanity guilty for what wrong it does. He has many layers into it. To be able to portray a character on screen which is so incredibly dark was a huge challenge as well as a big opportunity. I wanted to work for the character from the scratch. Generally, I always write autobiography for characters which appear difficult to me. It’s like my own analysis of them. I took over 3 months to prepare for Kaal. I was extremely involved. For instance, he lives in his own world, so that gave me idea of his looks that should be quite pale. One day, I imagined the look, dressed up accordingly and landed at Roshan’s house. They liked the appearance and it started evolving from there.

Was it physical exhaustiveIJ

Quite much. I used to wear a metal costume weighing 28 kilos. The movie is going to take sci-fi action to another level in India. It's unparallel. I couldn’t believe we were supposed to do all that intense Hollywood style of action when I saw the animation first. But we had intense training. Sometimes it used to be very challenging because of weather, especially in Hyderabad, where we did actions sequences in extremely hot weather.

How’s you experience with the cast and crewIJ

Rakesh Roshan is phenomenal. It was a long desire to work with him. He is very humble and interactive. He always asks for your opinion about the situation. But he knows what exactly he wants. Kangana Ranaut has done never seen before action. Her character introduced mutant in our cinema. She is a tough girl. I also worked with Priyanka for the first time. She is a powerhouse of talent. Hrithik is my childhood buddy but he was a revelation as an actor. We used to cycle in a gang near Juhu and we never knew we would working together. He was very concerned about me on sets.

Where would Krrish 3 take your careerIJ

I don’t know but it’s definitely a film that can start many trends in Bollywood. For the first time, India will have Hollywood-style of action. And we haven’t taken support of foreign talent.
