Global Food Factory might serve you the best chicken tambaki but it needs to pay a little more attention during the cooking process. By Shrabasti Mallik
There is an old world charm in everything that is familiar and comforting. Global Food Factory in Rajouri Garden may boast of international cuisine but you can relate to the dishes as one of your own. The chairs with covers depicting newspaper pages, dark wooden tables, mellow lights and the walls, filled with pictures from all over the world all make you comfortable the moment you step in. And then there is - the food.
They say that the start of meal says a lot about how the entire course is going to go. Well, the crispy fried veggies that we had were tasty, with ample amount of seasoning, but the spring onions could have been better fried. But the burrito bowl, Roman garlic chicken and mushroom caps fritti with garlic dip made up for the otherwise disappointing start. The burrito bowl, alone, is fulfilling enough, and the Roman garlic chicken is a discovery in itself, with the perfect blend of garlic and succulent chicken pieces.
We went with the chef’s choice and agreed to have a thin crust pizza. We were served the wood fired pizza chicken peri peri and we could not have been more torn. Perhaps the wood was fired a tad too much because the crust was a little burnt. The pizza topping, juicy chicken tossed in spicy-tangy sauce, although very delectable, did very little damage control for the rather over-baked crust. We tried out their penne pasta and lamb spaghetti bolognese, and they were surprisingly delightful.
For the main course, we opted for a chicken gravy dish with the Indian tandoori roti, and we were not disappointed. On the contrary, it turned out to be the best of all that we had. The chicken, which has minced meat, was a meal in itself — fulfilling and satiating. The gravy was actually minced meat with big chunks of chicken and the taste was as good as it looked in the big bowl it was served in. The spices, salt and every ingredient seemed to be in sync, in balance. And with the roti, it actually felt like digging into a typical hearty Indian meal. We suggest that you try their Burmese curry while you are at it. Its creamy with the right amount of coconut flavour.
All in all, Global Food Factory is worth a visit. If not for the crispy veggies then at least for the oh-so-yum chicken gravy.
