The stage is set. The designers are ready. India Couture Week 2025 is about to open in a blaze of style, writes Sakshi Priya
If you’ve ever stepped into the world of fashion, whether as a design student sketching ideas, a stylist perfecting drapes, an influencer crafting their visual language, a couture enthusiast tracking every collection or simply someone who breathes silhouettes and stitches, you already know what’s coming — July marks a moment that carries a thrill unlike any other. It’s when couture takes centre stage in India. It’s when the country’s finest couturiers unveil months of labour, vision and imagination.
It’s when India Couture Week begins. The 18th edition of ICW 2025, presented by the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) was unveiled at an event in Delhi. This annual fashion landmark continues to evolve as a cultural force, and this year, it promises to spark a style conversation that will echo far beyond the runway. Fashion’s gaze has already turned sharply towards what’s unfolding. Designers are staying quiet on details, but their presence at the launch hinted at transformations that will speak of power, identity and grandeur in ways we haven’t seen before. Chairman of FDCI, Sunil Sethi, took the stage with signature poise. “Hyundai India Couture Week continues to be the most awaited platform showcasing the mastery and evolution of Indian couture. We are proud to partner with Hyundai for the third consecutive year in presenting this celebration of design and innovation,” he said. Couture is storytelling through fabric, silhouette, and detail and this year’s event promises a compelling narrative.
A key highlight of the event was a live visual segment where models walked forward in one signature look from each participating designer’s upcoming collection. Every ensemble hinted at the direction each couturier might be taking rich textures, fearless silhouettes, heritage reinventions, and modern interpretations all stood out.
The 2025 line-up features a mix of legacy names and disruptive visionaries: Rohit Bal, JJ Valaya, Manish Malhotra, Ritu Kumar, Tarun Tahiliani, Amit Aggarwal, Falguni Shane Peacock, Rahul Mishra, Shantnu & Nikhil, Suneet Verma, Rimzim Dadu, Jayanti Reddy, Rose Room by Isha Jajodia and Aisha Rao. Each name signals a chapter in the evolving Indian couture narrative.
Will couture this year reshape wardrobes and redefine luxury? Will opulence give way to emotion, costume to statement? Who’ll steal the spotlight? Which look will define the season? All eyes are on the runway, waiting for the showstopper and the story it dares to tell.
