Actors Kevin Hart, Tiffany Haddish and Rob Riggle of Night School say that at times in life, you have to take wrong turns or go backward to move ahead
How did you get the idea of the film?
Kevin Hart: It was a very random thought. The other producer, Will Packer and a friend of ours got together in London. We were just casually talking about what would happen if we put a bunch of adults in school and made them embrace a high school mentality. We thought that we could get a good comedy out of it. And that’s how we started working on it.
What does the film exactly aim at?
Kevin: Night School is a film about second chances. It’s one thing that people take away from this film. The film is about a character who can talk his way out of pretty much any and everything. At times in life, you have to go backward to move ahead. Sometimes, you take a wrong turn, a ‘shortcut’ that takes you way of course, and you realise far too late that the right road was in the opposite direction. It’s possible that you’ll get lucky and the right and wrong roads will connect at some point but more often than not, you need to turn around. When you’re 10 miles down the wrong path with no directions, going back the way you came can also seem like the wrong way. But remember, every step backwards is one step closer to the right way.
Rob Riggle: There are so many adventures in this film. There is some breaking, hindering, stealing, a bit of lying, a lot of dancing along with a lot of embarrassment, pain and sacrifice but ultimately, there is redemption and that’s really amazing.
Kevin, what do you feel about Tiffany Haddish?
Kevin: Tiffany is full of talent. She is a fire. To see where she has come from, where she had started and where she has reached now. I couldn’t be more proud of her.
Why should the audience watch Night School?
Tiffany Haddish: Reason number one, watch it if you like to laugh. Two, you should watch it if you want to see Tiffany Haddish and Kevin Hart having fun together and enlightening the world.
Rob: We all need to relax. Relaxation helps you achieve a clear and calm mind. Your thought process is more positive and helps you in making a better decision. So give yourself a 90-minute break and go laugh it out.
Tell us something about the character Carrie?
Tiffany: Carrie is a teacher at the high school. She is overworked and underpaid but she cares. Her reward isn’t necessarily the pay cheque but to see people get succeed. That’s what she wants to do in her life, that’s what she cares about and that’s what she does.
What would you like to say about the ensemble comedy?
Tiffany: Every single person in this film has funny hysterical moments. We got to work with some of the most talented comedians that I know. People I have literally grown up with. It’s like we have grown together in comedy. It is so exciting.
