Age matters

Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment organised a presentation of National Award for Senior Citizens on October 1 at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. Pranab Mukherjee, President of India presented the national award to eight awardees.

• Best Institution for research in the field of  ageing — All India Institute of Medical Science (Department of Geriatric Medicine), New Delhi.
• Best Institution for providing services to senior citizens and awareness generation — Vrudha Sevashram Sangli, Maharashtra.

Best state in implementing the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens (MWPSC) Act,2007, and providing services and facilities to senior citizens — State Government of Madhya  Pradesh.

• Centenarian Award — Narasamma, Karnataka.
• Iconic Mother Award — Sindhutai Shrihari Sapkal, Pune, Maharashtra.
• lifetime Achievement Award — Vinodbhai Vralal Valia, Mumbai, Maharashtra.
• Creative Award — Nalini Vinay Mehta, Mumbai, Maharashtra.
• Sports & Adventure Award (Male & Female) — Dr GS Randhawa and Damayanti V Tambay, New Delhi.
