The new romantic drama, Badho Bahu, is all set to attract the viewers with its unconventional story. It gives a strong message to the society of just not judging people by their outward appearance. The main leads Rytasha Rathore and Prince Narula talk to Ila Sankrityayan about their roles and on screen chemistry
We all have been watching saas bahu sagas on television sets with the melodramas and typical home made khichdi. But if you are willing to take a break, then Badho Bahu could be a better option. This romantic drama revolves around a Haryanavi girl Komal a.k.a Badho, who is tad plumpy, played by Rytasha Rathore and Haryana’s star wrestler lucky Singh Ahlawat, played by Prince Narula.
“It’s great that mainstream Indian TV is writing such interesting characters. I am just happy to be part of something that’s challenging the status quo,” says Rytasha, whose character is being pitched as a daughter-in-law weighing 94 kg. Her character has a childlike innocence and is very vocal about her thoughts and her bumbling ways make her stand out. “I relate with Badho because she is brave and strong, doesn’t take nonsense from anybody. Also she is happy and bubbly. But in terms of difference from her, I am not as kind and patient as she is. I have got a bit of mean side in me”, shared Rytasha.
While Badho is well known for her ‘bigness’, lucky Singh Ahlawat is the most celebrated wrestler in the town. “This will be my first attempt at daily soap, so I wanted to take up a show that had unique content which is different from what you see on television these days”, said Prince. I am playing a very challenging character who holds a gold medal in wrestling. Rytasha and I will be seen as the television's unconventional couple and I hope the audience appreciates our efforts”, he added.
Narula, who has remained a known face of reality shows on Indian television, seemed quite excited about his role. He said, “I’m the most eligible bachelor in the whole village, and dream of having a girl like Katrina Kaif in my life but Badho becomes the reality. And from here the story takes turn.”
For Rytasha who have been doing theatre, this role came as a great opportunity but at the same place the transition from theatre to TV came as a challenge for her. As she shares, “The transition from theatre to TV was of course a challenge. This is because the number of working hours and also acting for camera is different than acting on stage. This is getting more of technical sense in your attitude. I have recently started shooting for the show, so I am still preparing for the role. I am still in the process of learning. Every day I learn something new and interesting.”
Talking about the challenges he faced, Narula said, “language is the biggest problem. I worked really hard to get that Haryanvi accent. Moreover, to play the role of a wrestler I had to focus on my body. It involved three months training, regular exercise, gym and proper diet. I took lot of inspiration from Salman Khan’s role in Sultan and tried to create the same magic on small screen.”
The actors had a great working experience together and were all praise about each other. “She is very talented and sweet. It is easy to work with her” said Narula. “It didn’t seem like I am working with him for the first time. He is very chilled out. And this makes everybody around him comfortable. Prince is total fun. I love him”, Rytasha said.
On sharing about some memorable moments from the set, Rytasha replies, “There is a scene where I had to play with a buffalo. I have never played with the buffalo before. I used to get very scared in the beginning as I have never touched any farm animals. But the buffalo was very cute and later I enjoyed it”, she chuckled. While Prince shared that, “I enjoyed every moment. It all came as new experience for me.”
