A collection crafted for the modern woman who eternally seeks new adventures, says Ramya Palisetty
Beginning on a soulful note, Anupama Dayal’s collection, Fida-e-lucknow played with the colourful tradition of kite flying in lucknow. Inspired by the crafts and the tehzeeb (culture) of the city, she tweaked her collection to the modern times. The background score had remixes of Bollywood songs from the golden era. The designer said, “The light fabrics created the effect of gossamer and gave a transparent look to the resort wear.” Decorative dagger, slender swords and soaring kites dominated the clothes and are a symbol of communal harmony that defines lucknow.
Dayal is known for her use of vibrant colours and this is the first time that she has made a bold switch to white, which dominated the palette. The silver work on white gave a resplendent look to the gowns. Each model wore a strand of jasmine flowers in her hair which added a playfulness to the look.
The colours were muted and ranged from lilac to yellow to red, peach and pink. The kite square was used on the shoes, as a pendant and as an earring.
Most of the gowns were mid-length and were plastered with rose motifs as well as colourful kites and dagger prints which gave a slightly androgynous look to the clothes. The cloth sling bags used as accessories were in pop hued colours.
The key moment that held the attention of everyone in the audience was when Anupama herself walked the ramp in white. Wearing a crown, she resembled a Greek princess.
The show ended with love In The Moment written on the screen. Said Dayal, “I tried to focus on the beautiful collarbones of Indian women by using askewed and asymmetrical necklines. For my forthcoming events, I would use more white in my collection with a certain composition of colours. Also, ruffles which have fascinated me would be used in a subtle manner.”
