Café Shunya buzzes with health as it offers gluten-free and vegan items. By Jigyasu Joshi
located in the Crosspoint Mall in Gurugram, Café Shunya is one of the newest entrants to the ever expanding culinary geography of the area. It is a cafe in all probability and doesn’t serve alcohol as other cafes in the vicinity. The place has used a lot of natural lighting, minimalist decor and glass instead of walls. It is actually one of the foremost cafes in Gurugram where you actually feel that you are sitting in the millennium city. The potted herbs add to the peaceful atmosphere. You feel quite settled in the warmth inside the café which has very basic monochrome tones of white and black.
The perforated wall paneling and solid wood tables combine with benches to give this glass-fronted café an airy vibe. The walls are finished with a pure white square grid of polka dots that behaves like a pegboard allowing the space to be used in an ever-changing manner. It also has a special corner that features a small sit-down cove.
There are freshly growing herbs like coriander, basil, aloe vera (which is plucked right from the pot while making an aloe vera infused smoothie) for increasing the wellness value of the cafe.
To begin with we had Tulsi Pesto infused Classic Sandwich, and Jo-Jowar Salad which had nutrients coming in through the amalgamation of Jo and Jowar. The sandwich had a fresh taste of Tulsi leaves and vegetables with a tad tangy taste of the homemade sauces. The salad had hung curd as its dressing and lemon pickle to top it. The combination of light sweet curd and sourness of lemon pickle made up for a healthy and scrumptious salad. We also had the Green Topic Smoothies made of spinach and broccoli pureed for taste with a dash of Guava, which made all the difference in flavours. While the smoothie might sound like some herbal medicine but the flavour of the veggies was nicely blended with sweet flavour of guava.
Chickpea Salad was again a must eat and had an interesting taste of star fruit in it with feta cheese as a dressing. The Beetroot Pizza was also appetising with novel flavours.
lastly to beat the cold windy winter night we had a Tisane - a herbal tea with zero tea content in it. It came with the goodness of ashwagandha, cardamom and by and large all Indian whole spices. For us, it was the ultimate concoction for beating the cold.
So if you want to take a break from eating the greasy meals at the restaurants and exploring for a healthy option, Café Shunya is one sure stop for you.
