Younger actors have taken a cue from seniors and are forgoing their fees for a part of the film’s profits
There is a growing trend among young actors asking for profit share instead of their regular fees for working in any film. This has elicited a mixed reaction from the film fraternity. The younger generation of actors is now opting for profit share considering it as a fair practice and a win-win situation even for their filmmakers. The trend is not new as top actors of Bollywood have been doing this since ages, right from the Bachchans to the Khans. It seems that the trend will continue with the newer generation and maybe even pick up with the entire lot in future. let’s take a look at the younger actors who are opting for profit-sharing.
Taapsee Pannu
Actress Taapsee Pannu, who started her career working in the south Indian industry, is all set to be the next “it” girl having done multiple films with some of the top actors. Her versatility is proven with last year’s release Pink and with a feisty turn in Naam Shabana. Her next film, a comic caper called Judwaa 2 with Varun Dhawan is putting her on the charts of top actors of Bollywood. For her recent release, a Telugu film Anando Brahma, Taapsee didn’t charge any fees but instead opted for a profit-sharing deal with its makers. The film was small-budget and the actress didn’t want to burden her filmmakers with her remuneration apparently.
Alia Bhatt
Alia Bhatt is currently busy shooting her next Raazi with actor Vicky Kaushal. The movie is directed by Meghna Gulzar. Alia has proven her versatility as an actor since her debut film Student of the Year. After that there has been no stopping this bubbly actor as most of her films have been a major box office success. Reports say that Alia has turned producer with Raazi and has opted for a profit-sharing deal without charging any fees. It’s certainly not surprising since she is a part of the Bhatt clan and producing films is in her genes. It’s but natural that not only is the power-packed performer creative, she carries a business head on her shoulders.
Ranveer Singh
Actor Ranveer Singh, who debuted with Band Baaja Baaraat six years back, has already moved into the profit-sharing model. The actor reportedly did not charge a single penny for his challenging role in Sanjay leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Bajirao Mastani. Instead he received a part of the film’s profits.
Even though his past few films didn’t do well at the box office, he is one of the most sought-after actors who can rake in the big moolah. Going by the money these big tickets make at the box office, this is a really smart move by the actor. Currently the actor is busy shooting Padmavati, another magnum opus from the makers of Bajirao Mastani.
Kangana Ranaut
Kangana Ranaut, who will be seen in and as Simran this year and as Rani laxmi Bai in Manikarnika in 2018, is on a career high. After writing dialogues for Queen and the story for Simran, she plans to turn director with Teju next year. But this is not just what the actor is limiting herself to, as this is just the beginning. Kangana is all set to up her game as an actor and is now planning to share profits for her films. As per the buzz, the actress is planning to take her collaborations for films to the next level with future releases in the form of sharing deals.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
The most beautiful woman in the world, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made her comeback with Sanjay Gupta’s Jazbaa opposite Irrfan Khan. The film did well on the box office and put Aishwarya back on the circuit with her super performance. During the filming of Jazbaa, it was reported that Aishwarya had followed her father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan’s footsteps by opting for a profit-sharing deal with the filmmakers. Since it was her comeback film, she didn’t want to reduce her fees.
