National Trust, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment launched  the Inclusive India Initiative. This Initiative aims to provide education, employment and community life access to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

To address the imperative need of ‘Inclusive Education’ in the country, the National Trust is conducting a consultation workshop on Inclusive Education on July 27, 2017 at Scottish High International School, Sector 57, Gurugram. The workshop will be attended by government and private schools of Delhi-NCR region. The heads of the educational institutes, teachers, special educators, students and parents will be participating to deliberate on the subject. This would be an ideal platform for education fraternity to ideate and conceptualise the road map for making the schools inclusive by offering equal education access to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

‘Inclusive education’ in simple terms, is the creation of learning environments that maximises the potential for every young person in our diverse societies to receive a high quality education alongside their peers in local schools.  The Right to an Inclusive Education has been explicitly expressed in the United Nations Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), The Right to Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 and Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPWDs) Act, 2016.
