Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani met law Minister Ashwani Kumar and handed over their letter of complaints. The actors spoke to Prerna Sharma on representing young lawyers’ problems
Arshad Warsi donned a black lawyer coat and was seated outside the law Minister, Ashwani Kumar’s house to submit a three-point memorandum regarding problems faced by junior lawyers in the industry. He typed the letter like a thorough professional on his typewriter and introduced himself as Jagdish Tyagi aka Jolly, an aspiring lawyer.
This was a promotional activity to promote his forthcoming film Jolly llB, where Arshad will be seen playing a character of a confused lawyer, Jolly. He was accompanied by Boman Irani and director Subhash Kapoor.
“During the shoot, I got to meet a lot of law students and was saddened to learn about the genuine problems they face. Simple issues, which if addressed, can allow them to focus better in their job,” he said and added “Many young lawyers complain that they can’t enjoy the facility of credit cards and loans. In our country, even criminals can enjoy such services but not a lawyer, which is demeaning. My second complain is that even though students join senior counsels for learning, they are not earning enough. There is a need to define a minimum remuneration for them. Many law graduates come from small cities and have to pay off student loans. They struggle to make ends meet. The Bar Council of India needs to lay down compensation standards. last but not the least, proper chambers should be provided to them. It is very difficult to sit outside court rooms in blaring heat or biting cold. If all these complaints will be considered, they will get a better environment.”
Talking about his character in the movie, Arshad said ,“Jolly is a great lawyer, who wants to earn recognition in life, but doesn’t know how to start the journey. The day he discovers the truth behind a baffling case, he fights for the truth against a pompous advocate Rajpal (played by Boman Irani). He has to go through many problems but at the end, he is able to bring out the truth. I think every lawyer should become like him.” He enjoyed working with Boman again. “Nobody could have played the character of Rajpal better than him; he has got such a flamboyance which makes him perfect for the role.”
