Sushmita Sen was seen here after a long time at a fashion do. She said she had been certified as a deep sea diver in the Maldives and was in no hurry to do mainstream Bollywood. By Shrabasti Mallik

Walking the ramp would be a cakewalk for her, that’s what we thought. But when Sushmita Sen sashayed down the ramp in a pink dress and golden stilettos, she looked little nervous. “I think it’s because of the cold here. I am so out of touch with the weather in Delhi that I keep forgetting that winters here are really cold and windy,” she said. Sushmita also revealed that she had stolen a shawl from someone. It was after a long gap that the actress graced any social event in Delhi. She was here for the launch of the second edition of Jabong Online Fashion Week. “The reason I agreed to be a part of the fashion week is because it provides a platform to young designers and models,” she said.

She believes that there is no dearth of talent in our country. It is necessary to provide them direction and guidance. The show will bring forth the best in every aspect of the fashion industry — choreography, make up, design and photography. Some of the best names in the world of fashion have collaborated with the company for the purpose. “Even today when I get noticed on a ramp, during a fashion show, it is because of lubna Adams,” she said pointing out to the choreographer present at the occasion.

Sushmita feels that it is important that youngsters enjoy and love what they do. “Everything will seem like a burden unless you start to enjoy whatever you plan to do,” she said. To explain the point she gave an example from her own life. “It has been two decades since I was crowned Miss Universe but it still feels like yesterday because whatever I have done since then till now, I have enjoyed every moment of it. I have been very busy enjoying life in every way possible and therefore I am happy in the space that I am in now,” said the actress who has recently been certified as a deep sea diver in the Maldives.

The second edition of the fashion week has received around 1,300 entries. Sushmita expressed her happiness at the opportunities that await the participants. She said, “So many people will have the privilege to get trained under the best in the industry — from photographers who have made us look good over the years and designers who have dressed us in the latest apparel to makeup artists and models who have been in the profession for years. It is a wonderful platform because after this there will be no chance that a participant will go unnoticed.” She believes in passing on her knowledge and said, “Whatever you learn you should teach it to people and share that. Because it allows people to grow and once they progress, you become a part of their resume forever.” Sushmita shared that she has been engaged with different things and we all have to wait for some more time to see her return on the silver screen.
