Language. Any thought, any emotion, any object; when was it first given a sound, I wonder,” shares Shabana Azmi, as a beaming Farhan Akhtar looks on, in an interactive talk with participants of Anubhav 2021
The pandemic has seen the Society of Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Among Youth (SPIC MACAY) making an effort to connect youth with the living legends of classical music, dance, and other folk art forms over the internet. This move was given life last year with the objective of giving the young citizens of our country holistic exposure to our rich cultural heritage and providing them with a creative outlet.
Anubhav 2020 witnessed widespread participation from students, not only from India but across the world. There were more than two lakh registrations for the event which was inaugurated by an audio-video message from PM Narendra Modi on June 1, 2020.
Picking up from where Anubhav concluded last year, SPIC MACAY organised the second edition of the interactive series from June 21 to yesterday, June 27.
Some of the notable names who were a part of SPIC MACAY’s Anubhav 2021 include Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, Shyam Benegal, Rajit Kapur, Shabana and Akhtar.
Sitting at home and following an ashram-like routine, the participants received an opportunity to connect with some of the most renowned gurus through various activities, talks and demonstration on a wide range of disciplines such as classical music and dance, yoga, theatre, film screenings, folk arts and crafts, cultural heritage and environmental interactions, connecting them with Indian and world heritage. Select students also received an opportunity to participate in the virtual workshops under the mentorship of esteemed gurus. The last two evenings witnessed concerts by India's classical music gurus.
In the backdrop of COVID-19, the education sector has seen some major roadblocks with the mental state of youngsters being affected. The need for value-based, creative and touching elements such as arts, yoga and meditation has never been felt more strongly. SPIC MACAY’s Anubhav 2021 is yet another effort in this direction to spread hope and positivity among the you during these difficult times.
