After the success of the TV series This Is Us, Justin Hartley is all set for his next film, A Bad Moms Christmas
The American actor Justin Hartley is known for his television roles that include Fox Crane on the NBC daytime soap opera Passions (2002–2006), Oliver Queen on The CW’s superhero drama series Smallville (2006–2011), and Adam Newman on the CBS daytime soap opera The Young and the Restless (2014–2016) which earned him an Emmy nomination.
Hartley appeared in the recurring role of Patrick Osbourne in the third season of the television series Revenge. Since 2016, he has starred in the NBC drama series This Is Us. He will be portraying the character of Ty Swindel in A Bad Moms Christmas.
What intrigued you to be a part of the the film, A Bad Moms ChristmasIJ
I saw the first movie and I thought they pulled it of magnificently. I’m a huge fan of the cast. Before I agreed to work in this movie, I had run into Kristen a few times, but I didn’t know anybody and they’re phenomenal. They’re great ladies. And then, they just keep on adding more names, more wonderful people to the cast. Plus, on This Is Us, I’m lucky I got to do a little comedy because all we do a lot is really heavy drama on the show. It’s completely opposite of what we’re used to doing.
What was the idea behind the filmIJ
The idea was to have a female lead comedy who are mothers. They are so busy that they hardly have time to take care of themselves, because they’re taking care of the children, the husband and looking after the house along with their job. There’re million things they’re worried about.
What if someone gets sick, they’ve got to take care of that too — they’re the centre of the universe. And my cast did a really great job of taking that and instead of making it like, these moms are going to go out and they’re just, kind of, going to complain about their lives, it’s hilarious.
I love watching comedy films like Hangover but it’s really cool to see women doing comedy, isn’t itIJ It’s kind of out of its element but it’s hilarious and it looks great.
You play the character Ty Swindel. Can you tell us a little about himIJ
Ty Swindel is a fireman so he’s got this mentality of a caretaker, has leadership qualities and he’s a hard worker. Not to forget his bravery. But on the other hand, he’s a really nice guy who cares a lot about people and yes, he’s a stripper at night! His reasons for doing it are, why notIJ I mean it makes people happy.
I think, he’s a romantic, always looking for love. He also gets a little depressed during the holidays, as he wants to find the right one but it’s hard to find that person in his line of work. But, he ends up running into this woman who he is intrigued by his character and they have a lot in common. They’re a little quirky which they don’t realise it. But they are and I think, that’s what so lovable about them
Dancing in front of the main cast was somethng new for you. How did it
feelIJ
In a way it’s freeing because you you know that everyone in that room has experienced that before. It’s acting and everyone knows exactly what you’re doing and when can you get an audience like that in lifeIJ
Also, they have no choice, they’re under contract and they have to watch, rightIJ So, for me, not that I’m trying to punish them, it’s just cool to see these icons sitting there and these young, beautiful women that are our generation’s lead actresses who have to watch me dance. But it’s great, I got a kick out of it. I figured, let’s just do it.
The movie is scheduled to release in India on November 10.
