Payal Jain’s recent Autumn/Winter show was about bright shades, subtle embroidery and divine music. I Kaur reports

There was music, dance and colourful mélange of beauty and divine love at the poolside lawns of Hyatt Regency. Gilles Chuyen perfectly matched the Sufi tunes of Kutle Khan with his contemporary style, while blacks fused into oranges and reds. Payal Jain recently launched her Autumn Winter collection — Âme-The Soul.

Inspired by the mystery of divine love and complete surrender, the collection was a reflection of inner soul, she said. It was a mix of embroidery and elaborate weaves, accompanied by silk drapes. The blacks in the collection were simple, the orange brought in sequence and shimmer and whites pushed in heavy embroidery. The contrasting element was Gilles who appeared in all white amidst blacks. There was a mix of Indian and Western wear. The show began with knee-length boots and clinging dresses with light hand work. This progressed into saris and anarkalis. Saris had heavy pallus and the suits were supported by detailed dupattas.

Models like Carol Gracious, Sonalika Sahay, Indrani Das Gupta and Krishna Somani walked the ramp on live music while Gilles blended in with grace and poise. The show came to an end when Gilles swayed past every model on stage in one of Jain’s creations in black. Jain too chose black as her colour for the day.
