Taking on a social stigma, one laugh at a time, Ek Mini Katha is a light-hearted film with a strong social message
Setting the premise of the film through a parents’ point of view, Ek Mini Katha journeys through some of the hilarious ‘incidents’ of Santosh Shobhan’s life. Santosh suffers from a psychological problem that causes him to be insecure about his ‘size’, which leads to some life-altering dilemmas. Struggling to find a solution, Santosh is at loggerheads with fate and erases the idea of marriage altogether until he meets Amrutha (essayed by Kavya Thapar), with whom he falls in love. Is there nothing a ‘love story’ cannot solve?
“A story like this needs fine storytelling and proper representation, and I feel fortunate to have collaborated with Merlapaka Gandhi, who is the writer of this film and an accomplished director himself. Watching actors like Santosh, Kavya and Brahmaji bring to life a simple yet relevant situation so seamlessly was a wholesome experience. Ek Mini Katha will not only make audiences laugh, but will also make them ponder about some of these issues,” said debutant director Karthik Rapolu.
Gandhi, of the Venkatadri Express fame, added, “This story is very close to my heart. I wanted to write something that is unique and hasn’t been explored in the past. I also decided to not give the film a serious tone, purely because it becomes preachy. Issues like these, when addressed in a light-hearted manner become conversational and more acceptable. I am glad that this film is releasing on an OTT platform, we will be able to initiate this conversation with so many more people.”
Talking about his character, Santosh added, “It was an absolute riot while filming this film. The writing, the direction was so spot on, that playing the character came easily to me. The fact that this topic is so ingrained in reality made it easy to portray the finer nuances of such a character. The film is an absolute delight to watch, and I can’t wait for the audience to watch it.”
(The Telugu film premieres on May 27 on Amazon Prime Video.)
