Yoga guru and self-taught artist Bharat Thakur is showcasing his works of art, Aureola-The Colours You Are, for the first time in Delhi. Thakur's works have influences from everywhere, particularly abstract expressionism of the West to the East Asian practice of gestural brushstrokes and the depthless picture surface that was the overriding feature of Chinese paintings. Exploring the process of meconnaisance, or literally ‘not knowing', he seems to be unravelling how mutual recognition is often forestalled by cultural fantasies of ‘otherness.' A series of portraits of Aghori babas reflects solitude and self-regard. His work also shows a current of organic and pantheistic philosophy.
