Sonu Nigam quits Twitter

lending indirect support to fellow singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya and actor-politician Paresh Rawal, Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam on Wednesday bade a goodbye to the Twitter, but not before putting out as many as 24 tweets citing reasons for his exit from the micro-blogging site.

Announcing his exit from the micro-blogging site after Abhijeet's twitter account was suspended for his abusive tweets and Rawal was trolled viciously online after he that author Arundhati Roy should be “tied to army jeep”, Nigam tweeted: “I quit twitter today in defiance of this one-side sham. Every logical, sensible, patriot and humanist should... I have nothing against twitter. It's a game changer. Yet Twitter could have been a greater platform. It's like porn shown in theatres”.

Citing lack of respect for freedom of speech in Twitter, Nigam tweeted: “I am no Right wing. No left wing. I respect everyone's opinion but I guess here you have to belong somewhere... I bid adieu to Twitter and my close to 7 million followers today, leaving most disappointed and angry at me, and some sadists happy”.

Nigam had earlier last month silenced his critics after a fierce controversy over his “aazan” remarks by shaving off his head in against a fatwa issued against him by a Muslim cleric from West Bengal who had offered `10 lakh to anyone who shaved the singer's hair and paraded him around the country with a garland of old shoes around his neck.

“I don't belong to a place where some pseudo intellectuals turn a blind eye to the unprecedented slap  I gave to the fatwa proclaimers,” the singer tweeted referring to the “aazan” controversy.

In his 22nd message, Nigam expressed his readiness to own a “newer” micro-blogging platform with some filter. “And if there is a newer platform with some filter, I'd be owning it. We'll see each other there. Goodbye till then 6.5 millions,” he tweeted.
