Saif wants to be a ‘classy gangster’

Phantom actor Saif Ali Khan says he wouldn’t mind essaying a ‘classy gangster’ on the big screen, but doesn’t see himself fit into an on screen version of real life mafia don Haji Mastan. When asked about films on gangs of Mumbai, and if he would like to do characters on the lines of Haji Mastan, Saif said, “Haji Mastan is a superb character... It is a very deadly character. But I can’t do the role of Haji Mastan bhai. That is something Ajay Devgn can do.”

Devgn had played a character inspired from Mastan in Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai.Saif said that he wouldn’t prefer playing a gangster using tapori language, but something more sophisticated. “I’d love to be a classy gangster. It would be an interesting character to do such... I’ll have to do something different since people have already done this genre many times,” he said.

I had tried to talk about the incident but people started to think I want publicity from this topic (Jiah Khan’s suicide) So I decided that the lesser I talk about it, the better it is. |SOORAJ PANCHOlI

Imtiaz Ali, who has taken a keen interest in promoting Bauddhayan Mukherji's feature debut Teenkahon, believes Bollywood will react positively to the critically acclaimed Bengali flick. “The whole world and Bollywood has taken cinema of the 1960s from Bengal very positively, and I feel that the Mumbai film industry is going to take the film in the same vein as well,” said Ali. Set for a September 11 release, the movie tries to capture the changing face of morality, the degeneration of values, the increasing pollution of the spoken language and the changing social fabric of Bengal through three stories spread over a hundred years from 1920.
