The forthcoming auction by Art Deal will focus on Maharashtra school of art and will present works by modern masters and emerging artists
Art Deal auction at Art Bull, lado Sarai will showcase the artworks by the modern masters and emerging artists. The auction will included some museum quality works by talented contemporaries who deserve recognition. Also on auction will be an artwork by an old Bengal master, one of his studies of the Ajanta Caves just a few years short of being a hundred years old. It is a remarkable souvenir of our cultural history. There is a sketch by Picasso that he had gifted to Jogen Chowdhury. An entire set of serigraphs from Husain’s Gaja Gamini series and an attractive collection of some interesting and rare pieces of art will also be on offer.
Inaugural auction of Art Deal Auction House will take place on January 30 at Crest, The Metropolitan Hotel. The auction house is the dream project of Siddhartha Tagore. Having being fascinated by several auction houses in close vicinity at a young age, he decided that he, too shall start his own auction house some day. He comes from a lineage of reverenced artists. He recalls, “I remember seeing works of Nandalal Bose being auctioned at Rs100 at that time. It was then that I thought of opening an auction house one day.”
Siddhartha started his art gallery over two decades ago and has been the editor and publisher of one of the first art magazines from Delhi for over 15 years. He held his first auction in 1998 in association with the WWF India called Preserve the Web of life. In 2011 he initiated the Art Bull Auction House. After his exit from Art Bull he decided to retrieve his vision and start afresh with the launch of Art Deal auction House.
In its inaugural auction, Art Deal will focus on the Maharashtra (Bombay School) of art. The intention is to put forth good works of art by young and talented artists. An effort has been put into hand-picking each art work to go under the hammer. The viewers will have an option to select from the wide range of works by the masters and emerging artists. Art Deal also intends to identify and promote young talent.
