Shweta Basu Prasad has lashed out at the media in an open letter

It seems as if 60 days in a rescue home and numerous allegations has not deterred the spirits of Shweta Basu Prasad, who was recently involved in an alleged sex scandal. She was given a clean chit in the case by the Metropolitan Sessions Court, Nampally, Hyderabad recently.

The National award-winner has finally broken her silence and in an open letter to the media stated how she admired journalists and how they let her down. “These heroes inspired me to pursue my degree in Mass Media and Journalism degree too. I always thought, ‘Wow! These guys, the media, actually risk their lives to bring us the truth’. And boom! You create a mess in my very life,” reads the statement.

Shweta also clarified that the statement that went around claiming that she had joined the flesh trade because “all doors were closed” was false. “I went straight to the rescue home where I stayed for almost 60 days, then where and how did I give a statement to mediaIJ My phone was confiscated, I made few last calls to my maa and few other close friends. I had absolutely no access to newspapers, television, Internet or radio for those two months. Then how could I have made such statementIJ” her letter clarifies.

The letter also shed light on Shweta’s activities which included co-producing and acting in a short film Int Cafe Night starring Naseeruddin Shah, Shernaz Patel and Naveen Kasturia. The letter states, “I have been auditioning for acting assignments as well. So what ‘doors’ were closedIJ”

She rubbished all false reports and said that she was in Hyderabad for Santhosham Awards. According to the statement, “The transport and accommodation was arranged by the organisers and the hotel was the hospitality partner.”

The letter also lashed out at the media demanding why the names of the “business men” that she was allegedly caught with, never made public. The letter reads, “And who are these business men in my lifeIJ I am just as curious as all of you! Why were the business men names who were caught ‘along with me’ not revealedIJ Clue: Were there any business men with me in that room at the time of detainment in the first placeIJ Think.”

Now that she is free, she is more optimistic in life and says, “I have completely gone past the whole incident and I overlook everyone who picked up false statement(s) and encouraged mis-leading stories without verifying it’s authenticity. I overlook, because this episode does not deserve any more attention!”
