On the 88th Birthday of Professor Yashpal, an icon of National Centre for Children’s literature, National Book Trust organised an interface with him on the topic ‘Developing Scientific Temper in Children’.

Yashpal observed, “We often talk about developing scientific temper in children but I feel that the grown-ups should learn from children.” He added that scientific temper does not come from teaching rather children should be encouraged to ask questions. He felt that curiosity brings scientific temper among children.

Shekhar Sarkar, Consortium Octect was the panelist on the occasion. He opined that developing scientific temper among children is important as it helps them to think, visualise and turn them into reality. He also said that scientific temper is not just domain of the scientists but a language of common people.

MA Sikandar, director, NBT talked about their efforts to develop scientific temper and introduce the readers to the world. The books explain science to children in a simple way.
