lata cuts a special album

lata Mangeshkar has recorded an album of bhajans and chants for the Jain community and she got herself a linguistic teacher to guide her through all the traditional devotional chants.

lata says doing the album was a special challenge.

“Somewhere they felt that their religious teachings and mantras have so far not been properly articulated. I am happy and relieved that they think my rendition does justice to their sacred teachings,” she said.

The process was time-taking but for the 84-year-old it is never too late to learn. “It wasn't easy. Getting the pronunciation and diction absolutely right has always been important for me. Early in my career, I had got myself Sanskrit and Urdu teachers,” she said.

Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan hugged with warmth as the two came face to face at an iftaar party. Their hug last year at Baba Siddiqui's party had made headlines as the two Khans had been warring for almost seven years and avoided each other at events. A year since then, the two actors have maintained a cordial relation with each other and met once again at Siddiqui's party and exchanged pleasantries this time round.

Nicktoon characters Motu andPatlu shook a leg with Madhuri Dixit on the dance floor of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.

Hiten Tejwani is currently gearing up for his forthcoming film Tere Aane Se, for which he has learnt to play guitar. “I am playing a rockstar in the film, for which I needed to have a basic knowledge about guitar,” Hiten said.

Gere is in leh for Kalachakra

Hollywood actor Richard Gere is in leh, the main town of the mountainous district of ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir, to attend to Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai lama's discourses. He will also participate in the highly venerated Kalachakra ceremony for world peace that will continue till July 14.

“Richard Gere is here to get the teachings of His Holiness (the Dalai lama) and to participate in the Kalachakra ceremony,” said an official of the ladakh Buddhist Association.

Wishing the Dalai lama on his 79th birthday Sunday, Gere recalled that directly after his first meeting with him in Dharamsala 33 years ago, he came to ladakh, which he described as one of the most beautiful places on earth. He described himself as humbled by the fact that he lived at the same time as His Holiness.
