The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has launched a scheme for systems certification against Indian standards on process, services and management systems through accredited certification bodies operating in India from May 15, 2014.
The certification bodies would be recognised by BIS for a period of three years for carrying out conformity assessment against Indian and international standards on behalf of BIS. The recognised body would be carrying out conformity assessment in line with ISO/IEC 17021 and/or ISO/IEC 17065. BIS would be maintaining periodic checks on the quality of services provided by the certification body.
This would go a long way in enabling the industry to demonstrate quality services, process and systems management for the benefit of the consumers and get a market advantage. BIS branding would benefit the certified body and clients certified under the scheme in terms of their credibility and market opportunity.
BIS would also be maintaining a global directory giving the certified clients instant exposure for a wider market. The details of the scheme along with application forms are available on BIS website.
