Gaurav Sharma, a Delhi contestant of DID lil Masters, talks to D Kaushik about his inspiration, strengths and weaknesses
At 11, he is confident of giving most choreographers in the industry a run for their money and his peers an unforgettable defeat. Gaurav Sharma, a Delhi contestant of DID lil Masters Season 3, was here with his skipper Raghav, after being in Mumbai for over two years now. Though it has been two years that Gaurav has been learning dancing, the young lad comes across as highly confident of his dancing skills. “I am not afraid of anything. Afraid are those who do not pay attention and work hard to improve their dance. I was always told to be myself and pay attention to my dancing. As long as I am doing that, I am not afraid of any kind of competition,” said Sharma, a class seven student. Talking about his schedule in Mumbai since last two months he said, “We rehearse for over four hours. We take a little break and after that it is time for me to study. This year I have missed my exam but I have to prepare myself for the next session,” he said.
Talking about his training in dance, he shared, “I started learning dance two years ago from my brother, who himself is a dancer. Both of us auditioned for DIl lil Masters Season 2, where he was selected and I was told to work harder. I did so and here I am,” he said. He learnt Bollywood, hip hop, contemporary, locking, popping and B-boying. “My father used to play Kushti and is a master of B-boying. He taught it to my brother and me,” added Gaurav. Since last two months he is also learning classical dance forms like Bharatanatyam. “I do not have any favourite forms. I love the thrill of being on stage and presenting my skills. I also love meeting and talking to people and the show has given me an opportunity to meet so many talented dancers. Dancing can also get you name, fame and money and I like it when people recognise me on streets and they come and talk to me,” he said.
Choreograher Raghav is his inspiration. “I not only love his dancing style but his attitude. I also like the way he dresses up. I would like to have dancing shoes like him,” he said with a smile.
Raghav had all praises for Gaurav. “He is an immensely gifted dancer and a hard working kid, who will keep practicing till he nails every dance step perfectly. This little brat is a complete package of superb dancing and entertainment. I am sure he has a long way to go in the show. As his skipper, I am proud that he has been receiving an overwhelming response for his performances. His passion for dance and self-assurance are his strengths,” said Raghav.
