Brazilian model and actress Bruna Abdalah is brushing up her Hindi to get desired roles. She talks to Team Viva about her part in Grand Masti and Salman Khan’s Mental
Till a few years ago there were handful of producers and directors in the industry who would be open to give chance to newcomer, who’s coming without any filmy links or references. But the long list of entrants in Bollywood this year alone is the proof enough that the industry is accepting new actors. looks are not the only parameter they are judged on. Bruna Abdalah is one of the newbies who is making most of the trend and feels glad that “it is easy to be a part of the film if you clear the auditions.” Bruna, an Arabian Brazilian model and actress has so far worked in item numbers in Cash and Desi Boyz and she is known for her role as Giselle in Punit Malhotra’s I Hate luv Storys. The actress is playing a lead opposite Riteish Deshmukh in Grand Masti and is also a part of Salman Khan starrer Mental.
Bruna came to India when she was 20, with the only dream to see the country, especially Taj Mahal. “like every other foreigner I wanted to see India and while I was here I thought that I might do some modeling and make some money. Initially I didn’t take modeling seriously but when offers started pouring in I began to enjoy it. Thanks to my modeling assignments I get to host the Channel V show India’s Hottest with Aditya Roy Kapoor. He taught me a lot on how to present yourself in front of the camera. After that I did an item number in Cash, which was a good beginning. I was also a part of Fear Factor-Khatron Ke Khiladi level 2 on Colors. I did a Tamil film Billa II, but I think it was Subah Hone Na De from Desi Boyz that gave me wider recognition. I hate luv Storys contributed too,” shared Bruna.
The model and actress says that her lack of Hindi was the biggest reason that she would hesitate in approaching the filmmakers. “I thought I would be rejected because I could not speak or understand Hindi. When I went to meet Puneet Malhotra for I hate luv Storys he gave me two pages of the Hindi script and asked me to prepare myself. It was Hindi written in English. I know what a tough time I had, but my hard work bore fruits and I got a chance to work with Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor.”
The actress is now taking regular Hindi classes and wants to master herself in the language. “Since last seven months I am training religiously. language has been a big barrier for me. It is very disheartening for an actor when her/his voice is dubbed. Sometimes the emotions, that you want to put in the lines, are missing because someone else has dubbed your voice. let’s say I am a good actor who has put my heart and soul in the act. But someone else’s voice might not match up my hard work and it affects the entire act. So I wanted to overcome this limitation. I am far more comfortable with Hindi now and I am hoping that in few days time I will be perfect with my diction,” she says.
All excited for her role in Grand Masti, Bruna says she never knew she can act funny. “But I cleared the auditions and I was surprised.” About working in Mental she says she had no reason to say no after she learnt the film has Salman Khan. “I would have agreed for the film no matter how big or small the role would have been,” she commented.
