Congress leadership has to take responsibility for all the alleged scandals during UPA-2 as it wielded real power, BJP said today as it used contents of two just-released books to target the ruling party and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
"Congress has done irreparable damage to the country. It is clear that Manmohan Singh is in office, but not in power. Had Prime Minister intervened, all these scams would not have happened.
"But, he did not intervene. Because, all power was with Congress President. So, Congress leadership has to take responsibility for all these scams more than Manmohan Singh," senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters here.
The contents of the books written by Singh's former media adviser Sanjaya Baru and ex-Coal Secretary P C Parakh "make it clear that Prime Minister is in office, but not in power," the former BJP President claimed.
"So, we understand it is power without responsibility. People today demand from Congress that you answer to the points mentioned by Sanjaya Baru and Parakh." Referring to the reported comments by senior leader M M Joshi that there is no Modi wave in the country but only a BJP wave, Naidu said there is no controversy in the matter.
"Modi is Prime Ministerial candidate of which partyIJ BJP. BJP has decided that he is its Prime Ministerial candidate. There is no controversy in this."The TDP-BJP alliance in Andhra Pradesh is working well and it would achieve good results, he maintained. In an apparent reference to TRS President K Chandrasekhar Rao's comments that his party would not support BJP but join 'third front', Naidu said such a political formation would only hurt the country.
"Third front is like joining different pieces together. It would not help the country. Governments were formed under the leadership of Deve Gowda, I K Gujral and Chandrasekhar earlier. They all fell within a short span of time. Do we need such a government againIJ.People, especially, of Andhra Pradesh, need to think," he said.
Maintaining there is no alternative to NDA, Naidu said the only alternative, Congress, is losing badly in the polls. Simultaneous elections to lok Sabha and legislative Assembly would be held in undivided Andhra Pradesh on April 30 in Telangana region and on May 7 in Seemandhra.
