The Delhi University (DU) is planning to introduce systemic changes in its Undergraduate admissions as the varsity is actively mulling to include Aptitude Test for entrance to UG courses from the next year. Though the Aptitude Test would be of qualifying nature only but will be used for the pre-screening of the candidates prior to the final merit based on marks.

The sub-committee named “UG Online Test Committee” formed under the Admission Committee , has agreed on having an Aptitude Test for UG admissions which will filter the applicants based on an eligibility test before coming up with final marks based merit.

However, there are apprehension among the academic community that introduction of any such test would promote the culture of private coaching as the students would flock to them for the preparation of Aptitude Test.

“The interest of economically poor students and those from the reserved category should also be taken into consideration. If university introduces an Aptitude Test it should also create a question bank of about thousand questions and upload it on its website to which students can refer before appearing for the test,” said a member of Admission Committee on anonymity.

Further, saying that qualifying marks for reserved category students should be lesser than that for general category. As per the member of the sub-committee the Aptitude Test should be different for different courses and streams.

However, there is no change in UG admission process slated to start from the first week of April for the upcoming academic session 2018-19 as the committee has out-rightly rejected the proposal of conducting online test for UG and also of introducing aptitude test for this year.
