Around 1,100 people involved in drug-related offences were arrested in the last four to five months, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Thursday.
Speaking at an event held here on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Gupta praised the law enforcement agencies for their efforts but stressed that public support is equally crucial to curb the menace.
She urged people to actively participate in the fight against drugs by staying vigilant and reporting any suspicious activity.
"Often, parents come to us in distress, saying their children have fallen into drug addiction. They share how their families are breaking apart and how helpless they feel. In such situations, we must step forward and support them," the chief minister said, underlining the emotional and social toll of substance abuse.
She also encouraged people to report any instances of drug buying, selling, or consumption by calling the helpline number 1933.
"This campaign needs everyone's involvement. If we come together, I truly believe we can completely eliminate drug consumption and trafficking from our society," she said.
