The students who were absconding from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) were resurfaced on Sunday evening. They have come back with an intention of surrendering in front of the police, said a source. The students include Umar Khalid, Rama Naga, Ashutosh Kumar, Anant Prakash and Anirban Bhattacharya came back two days after the Delhi Police issued a look-out notice for five who have been named in a sedition case for allegedly shouting anti-national slogans inside the campus.
Out of the five, Umar was the one security agencies were desperately looking for after some reports of his links with terror organisations. Delhi Police had given their names to the court on the same day they arrested the student’s union president Kanhaiya Kumar.
All these students were seen outside the JNU administration block where the protests against Kanhaiya's arrest were held. There is no clarity on where the students were all these days.
According to police, these students were involved in shouting anti-national slogans on February 9 when an event opposing Afzal Guru’s hanging was organised in the campus. A case under charges of sedition and criminal conspiracy was lodged against unknown persons on February 11. A day after that Kanhaiya was arrested by the police from inside JNU campus.
