Hyderabad: The Telangana Excise Task Force arrested two women, wives of former defence personnel, in Hyderabad for allegedly selling subsidised Defence canteen liquor bottles to customers at higher prices.

Excise enforcement teams seized 163 Defence canteen liquor bottles, estimated to be worth Rs 2.11 lakh, during two separate raids within the Alwal Excise Station limits in Hyderabad.

According to Excise officials, the retired defence personnel in Alwal allegedly procured subsidised liquor bottles using their own quotas and those of others. Their wives then sold the bottles to customers at higher prices.

In the first case, a team led by Malkajgiri Enforcement Assistant Commissioner Pradeep Rao conducted a raid at the residence of Manyam Naga Prasanna and Ramanjaneyulu in Saraswathi Nagar, Lothkunta, following information about the alleged illegal sale of Defence canteen liquor. The team seized 96 liquor bottles from the premises.

According to Pradeep Rao, Ramanjaneyulu allegedly procured Defence canteen liquor bottles, while his wife, Naga Prasanna, sold them from their residence.

A case was registered against the couple. Naga Prasanna was arrested and handed over to the Alwal Excise Station, the assistant commissioner said in a statement.

In a separate operation, an Excise State Task Force team led by CI Ganapathi Reddy raided the residence of Musimi Lenka (39) in Soujanya Colony, New Bowenpally, and seized 67 Defence canteen liquor bottles.

Ganapathi Reddy said the woman was arrested for allegedly selling the liquor illegally and handed over to the Alwal Excise Station.

The Excise officials estimated the combined value of the liquor seized in the two cases at Rs 2.11 lakh.
