The Telangana government on Friday dispatched electricity restoration teams to cyclone-hit Andhra Pradesh to assist in repairing damaged power infrastructure and restoring electricity supply in affected areas.
The move came after Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi requested assistance from the Telangana government following extensive damage to the electricity network caused by Cyclone Arnab.
Responding to the request, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Bhatti Vikramarka discussed the matter with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and directed senior energy department officials to send assistance teams to the neighbouring state.
According to officials, the cyclone uprooted more than 16,000 electric poles across nine districts of Andhra Pradesh, disrupting electricity supply in hundreds of villages.
Following the Deputy Chief Minister's instructions, Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) chairman and managing director (CMD) Jitesh V Patil took immediate steps to dispatch teams comprising electricity department personnel to Andhra Pradesh.
The teams will assist local authorities in repairing damaged electric poles and transmission lines and restoring power supply in cyclone-affected areas.
Bhatti Vikramarka also instructed Energy Department Special Chief Secretary Naveen Mittal, TGSPDCL CMD Jitesh V Patil and Northern Power Distribution Company Limited (NPDCL) CMD Varun Reddy to coordinate the relief efforts.
The Telangana government said the initiative reflected its commitment to extending humanitarian assistance during natural disasters and strengthening cooperation and solidarity between the two Telugu states.
