Telangana BJP Legislature Party leader Alleti Maheshwar Reddy has demanded a CBI probe into what he described as land irregularities involving 23 lakh acres. The demand followed an Assembly discussion and government statements about large tracts changing hands, but the allegations have not been established by an independent investigation.
Reddy questioned why action had not been taken against 13,000 people he said acquired land and alleged that the government was shielding the previous BRS administration. He sought a forensic audit, cancellation of allegedly irregular registrations and recovery of land. He also questioned the treatment of forest, endowment, waqf and Bhoodan land.
The New Indian Express reported his claims about named parcels and alleged valuations. Deccan Herald separately reported that the Chief Minister had ordered a Special Enquiry Team into alleged government-land irregularities worth about Rs 1 lakh crore during the BRS period.
