Hyderabad: BJP Telangana president N Ramchander Rao accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of neglecting farmers facing irrigation and power supply problems in the state while campaigning in Delhi over alleged vote chori.
Addressing a public meeting after the BJP's Maha Padayatra in Nirmal, Ramchander Rao alleged that farmers were facing severe difficulties due to inadequate irrigation water and electricity supply. He also claimed that farmer suicides were continuing while the Chief Minister was concentrating on political campaigns in Delhi.
Taking a dig at Revanth Reddy and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Rao described the Chief Minister's campaign as brain chori and accused Rahul Gandhi of naam chori over the use of the Gandhi surname. He alleged that the two Congress leaders were attempting to exploit the country and Telangana.
Rao further alleged that the Congress had been involved in corruption amounting to Rs 12 lakh crore during its previous tenure at the Centre. In contrast, he claimed that the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had maintained a corruption-free record.
He accused the Congress of attempting to destabilise the Modi government and undermine democratic institutions. He urged BJP workers to counter the Congress's allegations and strengthen the party's organisational presence across Telangana.
Expressing confidence about the BJP's political prospects in the state, Rao called on party workers to expand the party's activities at the village level and work towards bringing the BJP to power in Telangana.
Earlier, the BJP organised a Maha Padayatra from Shantinagar crossroads in Nirmal district headquarters as part of its campaign to protect democracy.
BJP national general secretary and Telangana in-charge Sunil Bansal, state co-in-charge Rekha Sharma, Union minister of state for home affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, BJP Legislature Party leader A Maheshwar Reddy, MPs Etala Rajender, G. Nagesh and Dharmapuri Arvind participated in the programme.
MLAs Ramarao Patel, Rakesh Reddy, Payal Shankar and Palvai Harish Babu, along with BJP Nirmal district president Ritesh Rathod, party leaders and workers, also took part in the padayatra.
