Bhadradri Kothagudem: A woman passenger allegedly pushed a female ticket conductor out of a moving bus after an argument over Rs 90 change for a ticket. The bus’s rear wheels ran over the conductor, crushing conductor's right leg and seriously injuring her left leg.

The incident took place on Sunday near Mittagudem in Ashwapuram mandal, Bhadradri Kothagudem district in Telangana. Police have taken the accused, Mounika, into custody.

According to police, Mounika, a resident of Mittagudem, boarded a TGSRTC's bus from Manuguru to Bhadrachalam with her young son at Kalyanapuram stop. She showed her Aadhaar card for a zero ticket and gave conductor Pravalika a Rs 100 note for a half ticket for the child. The conductor issued a Rs 10 ticket. However, the conductor said she had no change, she wrote the Rs 90 balance on the back of the ticket and asked Mounika to collect amount later.

As the bus neared Mittagudem, where Mounika intended to get off, she demanded the balance. When the conductor reiterated that she could not return the money right away, an argument broke out between the two.

As the confrontation escalated, Pravalika, standing near the footboard, reportedly said she would have the bus stopped at a police station. Mounika allegedly shoved her hard, pushing her off the moving bus. Pravalika fell onto the road, and the rear wheels passed over her legs within moments, causing serious injuries.

Locals and fellow passengers rushed Pravalika in a 108 ambulance to Bhadrachalam area hospital for treatment. Ashwapuram police reached the spot and took Mounika and the bus to the police station. Doctors advised shifting her to Hyderabad.

Police said a case has been registered against Mounika on a complaint from the Manuguru RTC depot manager and the bus driver.

Transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar condemned the attack on Pravalika, a conductor at the Manuguru depot. The minister spoke to RTC managing director Nagireddy about the incident and directed officials to register cases against those responsible and ensure Pravalika gets better medical treatment.

The minister urged passengers to treat staff on duty with consideration and to take any grievances to appropriate officials. He stressed that violence was not the way to resolve problems.

Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) employee union leaders condemned the attack on the woman conductor on duty. They demanded stringent action against the accused and better protection for staff from the RTC management and the government.
