Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy ordered the officials concerned to take all necessary measures to transform Hyderabad into a clean and traffic-free city.
On Monday, the Chief Minister held a review meeting with municipal officials at his Jubilee Hills residence and discussed various issues.
During the meeting, the Revanth Reddy instructed the authorities to ensure that no garbage is visible anywhere in the city and emphasised the need for continuous monitoring of waste collection.
The officials briefed the Chief Minister on the strict enforcement of door-to-door waste collection every day and the action taken against those found negligent.
Revanth Reddy called for special arrangements to be made for the removal of construction debris and suggested coordinating with the Industries wing to ensure waste collection within those zones.
The Chief Minister advised officials to create awareness about the effective use of 'Green Tankers' — which supply treated water from sewage treatment plants (STPs) — for construction activities, park maintenance, landscaping and gardening across the city.
Noting that drinking water is currently being used for construction, maintenance of greenery, and the development of parks, the Revanth Reddy instructed the officials to stop the supply of drinking water for non potable needs and use only treated water from STPs instead. He underscored the need to conserve drinking water in the difficult times.
As the Water Board has already initiated a service using 28 'green water' (treated wastewater) tankers, sourced from 19 STPs, as a first phase, the Chief Minister further advised expanding the supply of green water to areas under the GHMC, as well as those under the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation and Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation limits.
Reviewing the increasing traffic challenges, the Chief Minister also directed officials to take necessary measures to address traffic congestion and transform the city into a 'traffic-free' urban space.
Revanth Reddy emphasised the need for effective traffic regulation and instructed officials to prepare plans for the construction of underpasses and elevated corridors to establish a signal-free system.
The Chief minister stressed that the traffic flow should remain uninterrupted ensuring that vehicles do not get held up at signals for a long time. MP Vem Narender Reddy, Chief Minister secretary Manik Raj, HMDA Commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmed, Municipal Commissioner G. Srujana, and others were present in the meeting.
