Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K T Rama Rao on Wednesday said that Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy plans to loot Rs1.5 lakh crore in the name of Musi River beautification and also condemned the Congress government for arresting BRS leaders to prevent them from taking public opinion on the Musi project.
“Placing former minister Sabitha Indra Reddy and Rajendranagar in-charge Karthik Reddy under house arrest to prevent them from participating in the public consultation on the Musi project is an outrageous act,” KTR said in a post on social media platform X.
KTR also said in the post that the Congress government's rule in Telangana resembled the Emergency days under Indira Gandhi. “Under no circumstances will we tolerate such conspiracies aimed at silencing the voice of the BRS, which is fighting for the rights of people living along the Musi River,” he added.
KTR alleged that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was trying to loot Rs1.5 lakh crore under the guise of Musi River beautification. “On one hand, the drought brought about by the Congress government is wreaking havoc across the state, while on the other, the Chief Minister is planning to loot money through the Musi project,” he said.
While lakhs of farmers are suffering and shedding tears due to the severe drought, the Chief Minister is busy pursuing financial gains through the Musi project, KTR added.
“Revanth Reddy betrayed farmers by failing to provide compensation of Rs 50,000 per acre for damaged crops,” he said in the post.
The Chief Minister is engaging in real estate activities in the name of the Musi River Rejuvenation Project, he alleged, adding that the BRS would fight against the demolition of poor people's homes.
“On behalf of the BRS, we demand that the government immediately and unconditionally release Sabitha Indra Reddy and Karthik Reddy, who have been undemocratically placed under house arrest,” KTR said.
“We also demand that the government stop the Rs1.5 lakh crore loot in the Musi project and provide relief to the families of farmers in distress,” he further said in the post.
Senior BRS leader and former minister T Harish Rao also condemned the arrests of BRS leaders.
“We strongly condemn the house arrest of former minister Sabitha Indra Reddy to prevent her from participating in the public consultation on the Musi project, as well as the arrests of LB Nagar MLA Sudheer Reddy, MLC Sravan Dasoju, BRS leader Karthik Reddy and other BRS leaders,” Harish Rao said.
Rao alleged that the Congress government was more interested in earning commissions through the project than providing financial assistance to farmers facing crop losses.
“On one hand, the government is taking anti-people decisions, and on the other, it is using the police to suppress opposition voices. How long will you continue to silence and detain opposition leaders?” Rao asked Chief Minister Revanth Reddy in a post on X.
Meanwhile, BRS MLC Dr Sravan Dasoju and other BRS leaders were detained by police while on their way to participate in the public opinion on the Musi project and were taken to Kanchanbagh Police Station. Later the police have released them.
