Hyderabad: The Income Tax Department's Benami Prohibition Unit (BPU), Hyderabad, has provisionally attached two houses, four agricultural land parcels measuring 3.20 acres and a Toyota Innova Crysta in a case involving alleged benami assets linked to police officer Sankireddy Bheem Reddy.
The three provisional attachment orders were issued on November 3. The assets have a combined recorded value of Rs 59.4 lakh, though their estimated market value is several crores.
According to the investigation, two houses in Brundavan Gardens at Muttangi, each measuring 200 square yards, were transferred by GPR Housing Pvt Ltd to Pothuganti Indra Karan Reddy in July 2023 without any payment. Though each property was assigned a recorded consideration of Rs 14.2 lakh, the BPU alleged that they were intended for Bheem Reddy in return for official favours during his tenure as SDPO, Patancheru.
The alleged favours included not registering complaints and helping settle disputes involving the company. According to the case records, company director G Kalyan Babu described the properties as a "token of gratitude". Indra Karan reportedly told investigators that he had lent his name for the transactions at the officer's instructions.
The investigation also identified four agricultural land parcels in Mogudampally, measuring a total of 3.20 acres and valued at Rs 8.9 lakh in official records. These properties were registered in the name of Laxman Nayak, but Bheem Reddy was identified as their alternative beneficial owner.
In another alleged transaction, Aluri Suresh, owner of Apple Enterprises, provided a Toyota Innova Crysta valued at Rs 22 lakh in return for official favours. Investigators alleged that Bheem Reddy had exclusive use of the vehicle since late 2024.
The BPU also relied on electricity records and a handwritten list of properties as part of its investigation into the alleged benami transactions.
