Hyderabad: A 24-year-old man died after a speeding Kia car crashed into an air-release valve on the Krishna drinking water pipeline near Nagole Metro Station in the early hours of Tuesday, damaging the infrastructure and disrupting water supply to several parts of Hyderabad.

The deceased was identified as Vineeth, a resident of Hayathnagar. The accident occurred around 3 am near Metro Pillar No. 813/814 on the Uppal-Nagole route.

The collision damaged the pipeline valve, causing water to shoot more than 30 feet into the air, reportedly rising above the metro track. Thousands of litres of water spilled onto the roads for nearly four hours, flooding nearby areas and triggering severe traffic congestion.

Police and fire services personnel reached the spot following the incident. Officials of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) repaired the pipeline within 5 hours.

Several localities across Hyderabad were affected due to the accident. After the repair work was completed, the drinking water was restored in the respective areas.
