Hyderabad: Reducing dependence on private vehicles and improving public transport connectivity will be the key focus of the three-day initiative ‘Cyberabad Moves 2026’, scheduled to be held from November 26 to 28, to address growing traffic congestion and urban mobility challenges in the Cyberabad region.
Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) Commissioner Srijana said She said expanding roads and constructing flyovers alone would not resolve the problem and stressed the need for integrated mobility solutions involving various government departments, corporates and citizens.
Unveiling the poster of the initiative during a media briefing at the CMC office, Srijana said Cyberabad was emerging as a major growth engine, attracting people from different places for employment and other opportunities. The movement of nearly one half of the crore people, with a significant proportion commuting in and out of the region daily, was putting pressure on basic infrastructure, connectivity and traffic management.
The three-day collaborative initiative is being organised by the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation, Cyberabad Police and the Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC) under the slogan ‘Come, Make Your Move’. It aims to bring together government departments, citizens, corporates, students, urban planners, mobility experts and other stakeholders to develop practical solutions for improving mobility and quality of life.
The programme will feature exhibitions, knowledge sessions, interactive discussions and a Mobility Innovation Challenge. A Cyberabad Moves Declaration is also envisaged as a shared agenda for collaborative action.
Srijana said various departments, including Cyberabad Police and the Industrial Area Local Authority (IALA), had come together under one umbrella to address mobility challenges through coordinated efforts. She added that the CMC, in collaboration with WRI India, had been working on initiatives focusing on road infrastructure, pedestrian facilities and safer mobility, drawing on its experience in Ahmedabad.
As part of the initiative, around 100 participants, including students, journalists, IT professionals, citizens and urban planners, took part in a Data Jam and worked on 10 problem statements within four hours. The exercise brought together different layers of geospatial information, including road networks, bus routes, pollution levels and city infrastructure, to support data-driven urban planning.
The Student Mobility Programme, covering 526 schools, focuses on four key pillars — congestion, compliance, safety and affordability. The RTC is also involved in exploring affordable and safe public transport options for schoolchildren.
Cyberabad is also exploring a contra-flow bus lane system to allow buses to operate in the opposite direction of regular traffic on selected roads. The Madhapur stretch is being studied for its feasibility, with the Traffic Police undertaking field studies, data collection and consultations with experts.
The Corporate Commute Management Programme is another key component, aimed at encouraging employees to shift from private vehicles to buses and Metro through incentives. Corporates such as TCS and Biocon were mentioned in the context of promoting sustainable commuting.
Meanwhile, WRI experts conducted a two-day traffic engineering training programme for Cyberabad Traffic Police personnel of all ranks. The training covered traffic signals, junction design and traffic load assessment.
The initiative will also focus on safer junctions, pedestrian-friendly streets, public transport connectivity and sustainable mobility. Six major junctions are currently being developed under the CMC's Safer Junctions initiative, while the broader programme envisages the redevelopment of 74 critical junctions in collaboration with the Traffic Police and expert groups.
Other initiatives include the CMC Walk-Free Footpath Clearance Drive, corporate commute programmes, student mobility initiatives and studies on contra-flow bus lanes and one-way traffic feasibility. Exhibitions, life-sized maps and data visualisations will also be organised to create awareness of mobility challenges and encourage people-centric solutions.
