Hyderabad: The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a disproportionate assets case against Keesara Inspector of Police Arkapally Anjaneyulu, as he has acquired assets through corrupt practices and dubious means during his service.
The agency conducted searches on Saturday at his house, his office and four other locations linked to his relatives, associates and alleged benamidars.
During the searches, officials found documents for several properties. These include two plots of 150 square yards each, with an old house, at Lingojiguda in Saroor Nagar, valued at Rs 30 lakh, a 240-square-yard old house at CR Enclave in Mansoorabad, valued at Rs 40 lakh and an under-construction 180-square-yard house at Perur village, valued at Rs 50 lakh. They also found two acres of agricultural land at Haliya in Miryalguda, valued at Rs 80 lakh. Further revealed that the officer had acquired more agricultural land in Haliya. The ACB said the market value of these properties is expected to be much higher than the official values.
Officials also seized Rs 7 lakh in cash, about 60 tulas of gold ornaments worth around Rs 5 lakh and a car valued at about Rs 6.5 lakh. Household articles and electronic gadgets worth Rs 10 lakh were also recovered. The total value of Anjaneyulu's assets has been estimated at Rs 2.28 crore.
According to ACB officials, on September 16, Anjaneyulu, then working as Inspector at Keesara police station, was caught red-handed allegedly demanding Rs 8 lakh and accepting Rs 5 lakh through his subordinate, Sub-Inspector of Keesara, D. Gyanender Reddy, for an official favour. He was arrested on September 17, produced before the ACB Court and lodged in Chanchalguda Central Prison. He will be produced before the court on a PT warrant in the present case.
The ACB said verification of additional assets is underway and the case is under investigation.
