If you have a liking for sushi and sashimi, a visit to the Yum Yum Tree at New Friends Colony is a must. Deebashree Mohanty tells you what distinguishes this authentic Pan Asian restaurant from other eateries in town
The location is quiet nondescript but the food and the expansiveness of the restaurant will make one want to revisit. Yum Yum Tree has been around for a long time nestled in the busy community centre area of New Friends Colony, but their new set of chefs and decor breathe life into this authentic oriental eating house.
What has changed about Yum Yum Tree is their fresh decor and some innovative celebration menu that they keep rolling out from time to time. The manager can’t stop beaming about how the Republic Day brunch was one of the best in town with the restaurant going full house the entire day.
The normal Sunday brunch is also a treat for non-vegetarians and for those who have never tasted sushi before. “Our chefs gives that Indian spicy tweak to the sushi to make it more palatable,” Ramesh Rai, sushi chef says.
He tells you that sushi and sashimi lovers in India have increased in the past decade. “It is an acquired taste but people are slowly coming to like it. Our live sushi bar is a rage with the youngsters,” Rai adds.
So what’s on the tableIJ One can start the meal with a sushi roll with crab and salmon followed by California roll with black caviar, asparagus tempura roll and spicy mushroom rolls. Mind you, there is a way to relish these rolls with a sweet and sour sauce that adds a zing to the taste.
Dimsum lovers can have their fill of the succulent crab dumpling with pepper along with spicy chicken sui mai with basil and a spicy asparagus dumpling with satay sauce. The chicken sui mai is so tender yet so flavourful that one can’t help but ask for a second helping.
But be cautious to not over dose on the dumplings as the main course menu has some delightful offerings— mouth watering main course grill, barbecued pork spare ribs paired with fresh green curry with chicken, a delicate ‘ma po’ silken tofu with toban djan — you fancy it and they bring it to your plate.
Priced modestly at Rs 1499 plus taxes without alcohol and Rs 1899 plus taxes with unlimited drinks, Yum Yum Tree is indeed paisa vasool.
