Won't raise sensitive family issues of Nehru-Gandhi clan for electoral gain: BJP

Taking a dig at the Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s comment on Narendra Modi’s marital status, BJP national spokesperson Ravi Shanker Prasad said that though there are many things related to the sensitive family issues of Nehru-Gandhi clan, it was not in the culture of the BJP to raise such issues for political gain.

Prashad, while addressing a Press conference in Ahmedabad, said that his party could easily attack the personal life of Rahul’s father Rajiv Gandhi, his grand-mother Indira Gandhi and great-grandfather Jawaharlal Nehru. “However, we would not speak anything about their personal lives,” said the Deputy leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.

“Voting trend in the country suggests unprecedented BJP wave in general and Modi wave in particular. Electors are seeing a ray of hope in Modi. However, looking at the voting trend, Rahul Gandhi seems to be petrified and has started attacking the personal life of Modi now,” he claimed, adding that the BJP is battling the elections on five agendas — lack of development and security, inflation, unemployment and corruption. The Congress has no answer for its failure in all these issues and as a result, its leaders are diverting the issues by raising irrelevant claims like secular divide and BJP’s PM candidate’s personal life.

Talking about Manmohan Singh’s media advisor Sanjay Baru’s book, former Union Minister in NDA Government said that Sonia, Rahul and Manmohan Singh had compromised the dignity of Prime Minister’s Office. “In contrast, the BJP is set to give a Prime Minister in Narendra Modi who is not only effective leader but has capability to become voice of over 125 crore Indian,” he added.

On Election Commission’s measure to put a ban on the campaigning of BJP’s Uttar Pradesh in-charge Amit Shah, Ravi Shanker said that he and his party is deeply saddened by the EC’s measure. He claimed that Shah had not spoken anything, which could breach the Model Code of Conduct.

“It is improper to compare Shah with a leader like Azam Khan. The BJP is exploring all the possible legal aspect to defend Shah, who has done fantastic work as UP-incharge over the past few months,” he added.
